This review about the fine dining at the beautiful vegetarian lounge – restaurant “…Hum” in Saigon. What does it mean “Hum”? Itshould be pronounced as “Um” and it’s one of a famous six-syllabled Sanskrit mantra “Om mani padme hum“, which means “a jewel in sacred lotus“, “Hum” still means “wisdom”. And according to one of my nieces, we keep saying this mantra when seeing “ghost”! So remember it at heart, just in case!
Hum – vegetarian lounge-restaurant in Saigon.
I quite like the restaurant facade, simple but in good taste. Nowadays the vegetarian is not only trendy but also, somewhere, very “extravagant” choice for many people. Anyway it’s always good when we have more choices in town.
“Hum” is quite popular upscale vegetarian restaurant in Saigon. I said “upscale”, because of their good location, tasteful decorations, and especially their charming service and the food quality, and, of course, the bill we pay at the end! So if you are a picky foodie, a vegetarian, Hum could be one of your favorite spots in Saigon.
A jewel in sacred lotus – Lotus rice, one of Hum’s signature dishes.
I do love vegetarian dishes but I’m not an addict, if someone ask me where is the best for veggie. I don’t have any good answer, but after today “…Hum” with their peaceful, elegant atmosphere, their charming service and delightful food could be a good recommendation for some picky foodies.
The table setting with all chopsticks nicely wrapped in the green leaves.
The serene atmosphere at Hum despite the busy hours in the evening.
Tonight I was invited by my lovely nephew, an artist, together with other his siblings, all of us really enjoyed a dinner at Hum.The flavours of some dishes a bit similar to Thai taste, like Pad Thai or some salads which could choke you with its rich combination of tastes – sweet, sour and very spicy.
Pad Thai – a bit sweet but that’s quite typical taste for this noodles.
Winged bean salad – quite tasteful. Egg can be served in some veggie dish here.
Pomelo salad – sweet, sour and spicy!
Silky tofu with mushroom steamed in soya bean sauce
Mustard green rolls filled with some other veggies and tofu
Every dish has been served with different sauce, quite tasteful!
Deep-fried tofu with cheese – tasty, crunchy from the outside but silky soft – the inside!
and another sauce for deep-fried tofu
Spring roll or “Nem” in Northern style – filled with all kinds of mushrooms.
and a sauce for “Nem”. I found “nem” slightly salty, but it was good!
Curry with chicken-leg mushroom served in huge coconut shell, thick coconut sauce.
Braised mushroom, tofu, Thai eggplant…in fermented red tofu.
Lovely snowy passion fruit cocktail!
We decided not to order the dessert at Hum, we prefer to have it somewhere else. So we just ordered one sweet for sharing between 5 of us! And here you go! The coconut jelly mixed with passion fruit, winter melon…
The only sweet to share between 5 of us!

PS: We left …Hum and went for another “extravagant” soya milk at San Fu Lou, a newly open Cantonese restaurant, next to New World Hotel, but at the end we ended up with not only soya milk but also some other dim sum and porridge! A greedy night for everyone!
I really like the facade. And the food is lovely as well. I could happily eat there!
